What is it?

PlanX is hosted at planx.uk. So by default the link to your services will be something like:

https://editor.planx.uk/council/service_name/published

It is likely that instead, you’ll want to use your own ‘subdomain’ name, such a

https://planningservices.council.gov.uk/service_name

You can create a different subdomain if you wish, but we recommend planningservices so the links are standardised from council to council.

Why it matters?

So users get a consistent seamless experience navigating from your council web pages, and feel confident that they are sending their data to you.

How it works

PlanX is hosted entirely on AWS. For serving the static content, we’re using AWS CloudFront.

What you’ll need

We’ll need a SSL certificate that’s valid for your council’s domain. We’ll need the Certificate Body, the Certificate Private Key, and the Certificate Chain in base64/ascii encoding*.

Your IT team should be able to provide this. Just share the link to this page with them.

Choose one of these options:

  1. You can send us a certificate that’s specific to the chosen subdomain or a wildcard of it
  2. We can provide a CSR (Certificate Signing Request) — just let us know what you’d like us to put in each of the fields

AWS CloudFront requires a 2048-bit key, and does not accept self-certified certificates.

Once we receive the certificate, we’ll add it to our infrastructure and get back to you with a URL (ie CNAME) for you to point the DNS Record (ie domain) to. It’ll look like this:
