Tech inventory
Individuals are responsible for adding any devices they use for work to the Tech Inventory and keeping it up to date periodically.
Using your own device
You can use your own devices (desktop, laptop, mobile or other specialist hardware) to work for OSL. However, you must follow the same rules set out below.
Using any device
Regardless of whether you are using a personal device or your own OSL device:
- Always use a unique pin or password (minimum 6-digit, strong password or biometric key).
- Always ensure your device limits the number of unsuccessful attempts to no more than 10 attempts.
- Use Multi Factor Authentication (MFA) whenever available.
- Never leave the device unlocked in a public place.
- You must enable firewall in settings, where available
- You must install anti-malware software, as appropriate and keep it up to date
- Never install any software that is not from a trusted developer
- Never access websites that are not trusted, or are likely to be used to target devices
- You must keep the operating system up to date
- You must keep your browsers and any software applications used for work up to date
- You should remove any software applications that you do not use
- Do not allow anyone else to use your device
- Follow NCSC’s guidelines for identifying phishing emails.
